Supporting children and young people with SEND
If you are supporting children and young people aged 0–25 who have Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and reside in West Sussex, we encourage you enrol on the West Sussex Disability Register
Purpose of the register
Managed by the West Sussex Library Service, the Disability Register is a strategic tool used by West Sussex County Council and its partners to plan and deliver services that reflect the needs of the SEND community. Registration helps ensure that services are inclusive, responsive, and appropriately resourced. Data can be requested from the register by any organisation or individual to help inform priorities or initiatives.
Eligibility and registration
- No formal diagnosis is required.
- Any child or young person aged 0–25 with a Special Educational Need or disability living in West Sussex is eligible.
- Young people aged 13 and above may self-register, independently or with support.
- Registration is available online, by phone, or in person at any West Sussex library.
Benefits of registration
Families who register will receive:
- A monthly newsletter with service updates, events, and free SEND-friendly activities taking place in libraries.
- A library card with concessions including free reservations, and free audiobook loans.
- A Max Card offering discounts at various attractions.
- Access to a wide range of free SEND resources such as sensory stories, communication aids, and switch-adapted toys.
