Travel Vaccinations
If you're planning to go abroad soon and think you may need some vaccinations, fill out our online travel questionnaire by clicking below and we'll contact you to arrange a consultation.
Complete a travel risk assessment
Please be aware that many immunisations can take up to 14 days to be effective. Some immunisations are on prescription and must be ordered beforehand. Some immunisations require a course of injections over several weeks. We would therefore ask you to come to the surgery in advance of your initial appointment, which should be at least 8 weeks prior to the expected date of travel.
If patients do not provide sufficient notice for their travel plans, patients will be directed to use a private travel service elsewhere.
If patients have already attended a private travel service and wish to have some of their vaccinations on the NHS, our nursing staff are legally obliged to assess your vaccination requirements themselves. We cannot accept internet or other provider's conclusions. Again, we require 8 weeks' notice for this process.
The NHS does not provide all vaccinations so there may be a charge for some.
You can find up-to-date travel information and advice on the following websites:
- Department of Health Travel Information
- NHS Fit for Travel
- National Travel Health Network and Centre
- Foreign Office
Unable to make your appointment?
If you are unable to attend an appointment, for any reason, we would appreciate you contacting the surgery to cancel or re-arrange the appointment as soon as possible. Released appointments can benefit other patients.
Travelling in Europe
Your rights & EU rules
If you are travelling to Europe the EU has published useful information for travellers on the European website.
As an EU national, you enjoy the right of free movement. This means you’re entitled to travel, work and live in another EU country. If you’re a citizen of a Schengen country – which is most EU countries – you’re also free to travel to other Schengen countries without the need for border checks.
As an EU national, you can also benefit from EU-wide passenger rights for travel into, out of or within the EU by air, rail, bus/coach or ship. You can travel with pets and other animals in the EU provided you comply with the rules (pet passports). There are EU limits on taking alcohol, tobacco or cash with you to another EU country. Each EU country can set its own limits or restrictions, so check before you go.
